Dress for Success® Worldwide Hosts Inspirational Event on September 27, 2023, in New York City
Dress for Success® Worldwide is thrilled to announce the return of "Women Who Inspire," a pivotal event dedicated to advancing economic opportunities for women through personal reinvention. Taking place on September 27, 2023, in New York City, this gathering brings together a diverse array of participants, including corporate executives, innovative thought leaders, media influencers, social influencers, and the women who benefit from Dress for Success programs. The primary objective of this event is to craft practical and sustainable solutions to empower women economically.
The guest of honor for the event is the esteemed Gayle King, television journalist and Co-Host of CBS Mornings. She will be joined by Michele C. Meyer-Shipp, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide, and Lucy Kaylin, Senior Vice President, Content at Hearst Magazines, for a thought-provoking conversation on the art of personal reinvention and purposeful living.
Recent statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Women's Law Center highlight the urgency of addressing the economic challenges faced by women. Since February 2020, the U.S. labor market has added over 3.7 million new jobs, with a disproportionate number going to men. Shockingly, one in five unemployed women has been without work for six months or more, and Black, Latina, and disabled women have been disproportionately affected. The persistent lack of adequate childcare and support systems for working caregivers has forced many women into part-time positions, a trend that remains unaltered since the pandemic's onset. The critical need for upskilling and reskilling opportunities for women has never been more apparent.
The "Women Who Inspire" event serves a dual purpose. It not only raises essential funds to support innovative, no-fee programs aimed at fostering economic self-independence among women but also seeks to raise awareness of the profound impact that every dollar can have on the lives of the women served by Dress for Success affiliates worldwide.
Michele C. Meyer-Shipp, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide, emphasized the importance of reevaluating traditional career paths in light of current challenges, saying, "The time is now to strategically rethink traditional pathways to landing a job, keeping a job, and building a career. For the unemployed and underemployed women Dress for Success serves, flexible work schedules, childcare, and ongoing support systems are a top priority. They are our priority too. We provide the tools and the network to help women discover their purpose and reinvent their lives, professionally and personally."
This empowering event is made possible thanks to the generous support of the 2023 "Women Who Inspire" exclusive digital sponsor, Arm & Hammer Laundry, as well as lead sponsors AGE Beautiful, imPRESS Beauty, KISS, SHE Media, T.J.Maxx, TORRID, and ULTA Beauty.
"Women Who Inspire" promises to be an inspiring and impactful gathering, where thought leaders and advocates come together to address the pressing economic challenges facing women today. Through discussions, networking, and shared insights, the event aims to drive meaningful change and create new opportunities for women to thrive in the workforce.
