The Academy has officially deemed Doja Cat's song for the "Elvis" movie, 'Vegas," as ineligible for the 2023 Academy Awards.
According to Variety, this decision was made due to it being an interpolation of "Hound Dog," which is an Elvis Presley classic. The song was written by Doja Cat and producers Roget Chahayed and Yeti Beats. According to the Oscar rules, the words and music must be "original, written specifically for the motion picture" and must be the result of "creative interaction between the filmmakers and the songwriters who have been engaged to work directly on the motion picture." According to Variety's sources, "A score shall not be eligible if it has been diluted by the use of pre-existing music."
